Want to know my Counseling Philosophy?

 

What makes me different from many traditional counselors or therapists?

I take ideas and techniques from several different views on effective counseling, and use them as I see the need to apply them, in order to help individuals who come to see me to talk about life. I draw on God’s answers found in the Word of God as the foundation for understanding the world and understanding people, and therefore need to know and ever be learning the Word of God. I have a working knowledge of certain theories of psychology, evaluate them in light of the Bible and use the wisdom found there. I believe that the Bible is all true, but that Scripture does not provide us all that we need in order to understand human beings fully, and that there is a legitimate and strategic role for psychology as a science and as a provider of tools for understanding and improving the human condition. My fundamental loyalty is to the true teachings of the Bible.

And the most important thing – I have the Holy Spirit within my heart, soul, and mind, and He is my personal counselor and guide. He knows what is happening inside clients in ways that I can’t possibly see, and so I rely on Him for guidance as I talk with people. I need more than all the wisdom that I can muster up, which I admittedly have accumulated over my lifetime. But I’m not interested in spreading my own wisdom or insights. I’m tuned to the Spirit and rely on Him for discernment and wisdom.
